This one had two different problems that both needed the right approach. The ground-mounted solar panels had built up a layer of grime and organic buildup that was sitting right on the surface - the kind of thing that quietly cuts into how well your panels perform. And the siding on the house had green algae crawling across it, especially heavy along the lower courses and around the windows.
For the siding, we used soft washing. That means low pressure paired with a cleaning solution that actually kills the algae at the root rather than just blasting the surface. High pressure on vinyl siding can force water behind the panels and cause damage you won't see until later. Soft washing avoids that entirely. The result is a clean that lasts longer and doesn't risk the surface underneath.
The solar panels got their own careful treatment. Dirt, pollen, and biological buildup on panel surfaces block light absorption - and that directly affects output. You invest good money in solar, so keeping those panels clear just makes sense. We cleaned each panel without using anything abrasive or high-pressure that could scratch the glass or damage the cells.
Two very different surfaces, two very different approaches - but the same goal for both. Get it clean, keep it safe, and make the property look cared for again. That's exactly what this York home ended up with.
